Where is Sarah's sunshine? Sarah's sunshine is Philadelphia! Last week, my whole grade level took a field trip to Philly on the biggest coach buses that you have ever seen! I saw so many awesome things that include Benjamin Franklin's grave, the Liberty Bell, and more! I even sat in the same seats that George Washington, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, and Betsy Ross sat in over two hundred fifty years ago!
First, on the day of the trip, we boarded the buses! On the bus I laughed, played and joked around with two of my best friends. We also took a ton of silly pictures! :-) Our tour guide for the trip was a nice young lady who told us about everything that we passed on the tour. The first thing we saw was a model of Benjamin Franklin's printing press.
I couldn't believe how hard it was to print just one piece of paper back then! Apparently, the workers at the printing press could make a piece of printed paper in half a minute if they were trained well, how amazing is that!? Next, we went to Independence Hall and saw many two hundred year old things such as, chandeliers, paintings, quills and ink, work desks, and more!
I can't believe that these two hundred year old items are still in great shape! After Independence Hall, we walked to the museum that held the Liberty Bell. We visited Betsy Ross's house on our way to see Benjamin Franklin's grave.
On Mr. Franklin's grave, people threw pennies on it because on of Franklin's most famous saying that was, "a penny saved is a penny earned". In that same graveyard is John Dunlap, Deborah Franklin, Francis Hopkinson, Dr. Benjamin Rush, Dr. Philip Syng Physick, and many more famous people! Right before boarding the buses, we ate lunch and said goodbye to Philadelphia.
I learned many interesting facts about the Liberty Bell such as, the crack on the honored bell was purposely made because, the bell had a hairline crack in it and it could be heard when rung. So, the people had two options, to create a new bell or make the crack bigger so that the two sides of the bell weren't rubbing against each other. Of course, they didn't want to make a new bell, because it was a national monument, so everyone decided to make the small crack bigger. I thought that was a very cool fact that most of us didn't know. After visiting the Liberty Bell, we all went to see the church where George and Martha Washington, Benjamin and Deborah Franklin, Betsy Ross, and many other historical figures who were well known during the time of the Revolutionary War went for services every Sunday.
My field trip to Philadelphia was really fun and memorable. I had a great time while learning many new things and having a blast with my friends! Philadelphia was an awesome field trip!
Sarah's Sunshine
What is Sarah's Sunshine? Sarah's Sunshine is my first blog! I dream of becoming a writer when I grow up. I LOVE TO WRITE! The idea for this blog came when I was taking a tour of the school that I would be attending next year. The guide was telling us about the yearbook club. The club and this blog will prepare me to be a photojournalist. Enjoy Sarah's Sunshine:)

What is Sarah's Sunshine? Sarah's sunshine is my first blog entry ever!! My name is Sarah and I dream of becoming a writer when I grow up. This blog is helping me get a great head start! I want to be a writer when I grow up I want because I LOVE to write! I have won two writing contests in the past.
The idea for this blog came to be when I was taking a tour of the school that I would be attending next year. The tour guide was telling us about all of the different clubs that we can sign up for, drama, chess, science, etc. Then I heard yearbook. That would be perfect for me! When I got home I told my dad all about the tour.
The next morning, he asked me if I knew the definition of a photojournalist. After I told him, he asked if I wanted to be one. Of course I said yes. He would teach me how to use a "real" camera and I would use my writing skills. So when the time comes, whether it will be for the middle school yearbook or the high school newspaper, I will be prepared to be a photojournalist. That afternoon, my dad and I came up with the idea of creating a blog for this reason. ( aka, that's the blog you are reading right now!)
I can't wait to make more entries! Some topics that I'll be writing about on Sarah's Sunshine are, dance, my BFF's, the beach, toys, nature, and many many more topics! :-)
